About Us

Urban Pollinators started from a simple interaction or lack thereof...

When was the last time you saw a butterfly in our urban areas?

For me and my friends, we couldn't remember.

It feels like new construction and stores pop up every few months. And while it has been exciting to see so much innovation and change in the Bay Area, I realized that the growth of our urban areas has led to a decrease in the pollinators that protect and encourage the natural biodiversity, healthy soils and clean water in our neighborhoods. And many of our local lower socioeconomic neighborhoods have been disproportionately affected by this as well.

With a more holistic approach towards urban landscapes and community action, both urban growth and nature can coexist.

Our mission is to transform our local urban landscapes -- specifically the 10 mile urban stretch between the Bay Area Santa Cruz Mountains and the Diablo Mountain Range -- into pollinator-friendly spaces through community education, habitat creation, and outdoor volunteer events. Every park, garden, and balcony can become a vital step in a "nature highway" that connects urban-wildlife corridors.

Thanks for stopping by our site and supporting our mission!
